What is a
Dental Filling?
Dental fillings essentially ‘fill’ in any holes or spaces in your teeth that result from cavities or injuries. Fillings tend to be minor and preventable. In the most basic of dental restorations, your dentist cleans the affected area, and then the decayed tooth structure is drilled out and the cleaned out cavity is replaced or filled with a filling material of either a composite (white) or amalgam (silver) filling material.
It is always recommended to catch cavities early on so that bigger problems can be avoided. When cavities are left to get larger, the tooth may require a filling, or even a root canal and/or dental crown.
Do you need a Dental Filling?
Any tooth that is chipped, cracked, or decayed needs a filling. Some indicators that you may require a filling include:
- Chips/cracks
- Sensitive to sweet, hot and/or cold
