Meet the Toothville Family Dentistry Team

Sam, Registered Dental Hygienist

SamAs a Registered Dental Hygienist, Sam enjoys having the ability to directly and immediately improve the quality of life of those in her community. She was originally drawn to the field of dentistry because of how much interesting science and research is behind every treatment we do at the practice.

Sam earned a Dental Hygiene Diploma from Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene in 2015 and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary in 2013. She attends dental conferences and is in a study club that discusses everything from periodontal protocol to skeletal and muscular mechanics. Sam also takes various hands-on clinical courses.

She finds it gratifying to provide patient education, whether it be on their oral health condition or oral hygiene techniques. To see them get that “aha!” moment is rewarding for her. Sam loves being able to connect the dots for patients, so they have a real understanding of their health, and are empowered by their knowledge.

When she’s not at the practice, Sam enjoys staying active by working out at the gym, playing golf, or hiking in the mountains. She also enjoys seeking out and trying new recipes and cooking for her friends and family.

Shandel, Dental Hygienist

Shandel, Registered Dental Hygienist

In 2016 Shandel graduated from the University of Alberta with her Diploma in Dental Hygiene and then in 2017 received her Bachelor of Science With Distinction specializing in Dental Hygiene. Shandel was also awarded membership to the Golden Key International Honour Society for academic excellence. She is currently completing her Masters of Health Studies through Athabasca University.

Shandel enjoys her clinical work as a Registered Dental Hygienist and is passionate about helping her clients reach their oral health goals. She is also certified in both local anesthetic and Soft Tissue Diode Lasers. In addition to her work at Toothville Family Dentistry, Shandel volunteers locally with The Alex and globally with Health Mission Outreach to provide dental hygiene therapy and education to families and communities with limited access to dental care. Aside from practising dental hygiene therapy, she enjoys staying active, reading, playing with her two kitties, and traveling.

Katelyn, Registered Dental Assistant

Growing up with an uncle as a dentist, Katelyn always knew she had an interest in the field—so much so that she decided to make a career out of it, graduating from Columbia College in 2016. As a Registered Dental Assistant, Katelyn enjoys working with patients every single day and being able to help them achieve and maintain excellent oral hygiene.

Outside of the practice, she enjoys spending time with her family—she has seven nieces and nephews and another one on the way. When she isn’t with them, you can find her at the gym or with friends.

Jolene, Registered Dental Assistant

As a RDA who enjoys being a part of our talented practice team, Jolene loves building lasting relationships with our patients and helping to create the perfect smile. She graduated from KDM Dental College International Inc. in 2010, completed an Orthodontic Module at Columbia College Calgary, and attained a Dental Assistant Level II Certificate.

Other continuing education courses Jolene has taken include emergency training for sedation, IPC protocol in the office, cooperation with different personalities in the office, Levin Group Training to improve office practices, Invisalign®, and CPR (every year).

Jolene loves to educate clients on the day-to-day maintenance of their teeth to promote long-term retention. The most rewarding aspect of dentistry for her is being able to share and celebrate that moment someone sees their “perfect smile” after Invisalign, implants or correction of an issue that has bothered a patient for a while.

Outside of work, Jolene enjoys camping and hiking with her family and their fur baby Cooper. She also loves a lazy night at home with friends and family either playing games or watching a movie.

Nesma, Dental Assistant

Nesma has been working in the dental field since 2010. As luck would have it, she has been able to assist many prestigious dentists in Egypt and Canada. There she learned, among many other things, the importance of patient safety and comfort.

For her, putting the patients in her care first is a number one priority. She is also passionate about learning and trying new things.

Outside of working at Toothville Family Dentistry, Nesma spends her time with her husband and two boys. She loves to read and go for long walks with her family.

Sheila, Administration

Sheila loves dealing with each patient one-on-one, getting to know them and their families while helping their smiles reach their fullest potential. She graduated from the Dental Assisting program at SAIT in 1997, which enabled her to become a Registered Dental Assistant. For Sheila, there is no greater reward than a happy patient, who has transformed their smile and met their oral health goals!

When she’s not at the practice, Sheila enjoys spending time with her husband and their four sons. Their boys keep them busy running between school and activities. She also loves road trips and spending time by the water. If she’s lucky enough to find some quiet time, Sheila likes curling up with a great suspense novel.

Kayla, Dental Receptionist

Upon finishing a course in dental reception with honours in 2015, Kayla joined the Toothville Family Dentistry team and has been helping patients have exceptional visits ever since. Her favourite part of her job is being able to help patients experience the best oral health care while assisting them with insurance and financing.

Outside of work, Kayla enjoys working out at the gym, playing video games and spending time with her cat.

Lisa, Office Manager

Lisa received her SAIT Dental Assisting Diploma in 1991, allowing her to bring exceptional service to patients ever since. She’s an integral part of the Toothville Family Dentistry team and she enjoys the opportunity to work with patients every single day.

Outside of the practice, Lisa enjoys walking her dog Kooper, reading, and spending time with her family.
