Fluoride Treatments

Your NW Calgary Choice for
Fluoride Treatments!

You may not be aware, but all teeth need fluoride. Fluoride minimizes harmful acid that continually attacks your teeth. This occurs when bacteria mixes with sugar in the mouth and then eats away at the tooth enamel, thus causing tooth decay. Regular fluoride treatments provided by your Toothville Hygienist can help.

Since most people get tend to get adequate amounts of fluoride through their municipal drinking water as well as the foods they eat, sometimes that is not always the case. Using store-bought bottled water or a bottled water filtration source may not be providing you with the fluoride you need!

Since fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent cavities, it can also help repair teeth to prevent the early microscopic states of tooth decay.

Traditionally, it was believed only children required fluoride treatments, but today, more adults require regular fluoride treatments especially since they may run a higher risk of tooth decay. This could be due to such factors as:

  • Inadequate oral hygiene habits
  • Suffer from an eating disorder or may be abusing alcohol or drugs
  • Poor or neglected dental care
  • Suffering from diet or nutrition issues
  • Suffers from dry mouth (our saliva helps wash bacteria from our teeth)
  • Oral bacteria issues

Types of
Fluoride

You can supplement your and your child’s oral care by using over-the-counter rinses, mouthwashes and prescription kinds of toothpaste.

Your dentist also has many options available including supplements, professional fluoride foam and gels. All of these are available at Toothville.

A cautionary note, please be aware that young children can get too much fluoride in their daily oral care. Too much fluoride (especially for those under 6)  can potentially be toxic. We recommend that parents need to be vigilant in monitoring their children’s oral habits and ensuring that all forms of fluoride are kept out of reach. If you notice small white specks or streaks, or even worse, brown spots, you may be suffering from a condition called fluorosis. This condition occurs typically when drinking over fluoridated water (typically comes from well water).

At Toothville, we want you to ask us about the benefits of fluoride for you and your children. So if you have any questions or concerns about the fluoride in your Calgary and area drinking water, please be sure to let us know.  Our friendly team will be happy to address any concerns or answer any questions that you may have.
